    Money is the issue!!!

Tom Vilsack- gone before we ever got a chance to know him. Makes me wonder if we are doing something wrong in the way we do this.

I'm really kind of sad about Vilsack dropping out for a couple of reasons. First of all he is a very intelligent man who the American people should have had at least a chance to hear. And secondly, what happened to the idea that anyone can be President. Not true anymore. If you don't have or can't raise at least 100 million dollars you don't have a chance. That's a sad state of affairs - this has to change. There needs to be some caps on what a candidate can spend on an election campaign. If that doesn't happen only the rich or those who know the rich will be elected. That is very troubling to me.

Jimmy Carter was on "This Week" yesterday reflecting on the same thing. He spoke of how broke he was when his campaign never began.

He said it would be impossible to run that campaign today and that anyone that doesn't have $100 million in the bank won't make it through the primary process in either party.

    That is truly sad, indeed.

It was interesting that Mr Carter offered his strongest support for Al Gore, who is not running (yet) and did not offer much commentary about the other candidates except to say that he had wished that Obama had decided not to run at this time.
